If I had to buy a Engineering book that was required by my school but wasn't accounted for in my Student 1098 form is that okay if I still put it into the required box?

The book I was required to buy was a steel manual for my steel design class.

Q.  is that okay if I still put it into the required box?

A. Yes.

But, there is an entry place, in TurboTax, especially for books. You should enter it there.  But, if you are an undergrad, it is OK to add you book expenses to the box 1 amount of the 1098-T.  Just be sure you don't duplicate the amount. Books are not a qualified expense for the grad student credit ("LLC").
