I was wondering if on the government truly has stopped taking peoples taxes for defaulted student loans like that says on the news? Because I haven’t filed mine yet

Yes, The U.S. Department of Education has halted collection efforts on defaulted federal student loans, including wage garnishment, the offset of federal income tax refunds and the offset of Social Security benefit payments.
