I was diagnosed with a permanent learning disability this year so I bought an iPad for university. Can I claim this?

I needed the iPad to take notes. I purchased it with my own money and have a receipt.

Whether you can claim the iPad as a tax deduction depends on a few factors.

For educational expenses, the IRS allows deductions for items that are required for enrollment or attendance at an eligible educational institution.

If the iPad is necessary for your coursework and was required by your school as part of course work supplies, it might be considered a qualified education expense under the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) or the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC)
