I just need to know if the irs will take my tax refund for defaulted student loans? I know during covid they stopped it. And I've read it starts Oct 2023 or Aug 2024??

I've heard many things and I'm just curious cause I don't wanna lose my tax refund. Ultimately I just wanna know if my tax refund for 2023 is gonna be taken.

Reduced Refund      https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc203

NOTE: You can contact the IRS Treasury Offset Program Call Center at 1-800-304-3107 to ask if they have an offset for you on file. TurboTax would not have that information.

Q. Will my 2023 tax refund be garnished for student loans?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government paused student loan collections on all federal loans, including tax refund offsets. That pause ended in September 2023. However, the U.S. Department of Education said it will postpone tax refund offsets until at least September 2024.
