I have a 1099Q for 529 distributions used to pay for room and board. Where can I input room/board expenses in TT? I don't see it in Ed Expenses-only books/materials

I don't qualify for any of the education tax credits due to MAGI

If the 1099-Q is for a student beneficiary that is not you, the student can enter the distribution and related education expenses on their return.

Enter the 1099-Q first, then in Education Expenses, you can add Room and Board as an Additional Expense (see screenshot).

Thank you!  The dropdown choices that included room and board on the Education Expenses page (as you showed in your screenshot) did not populate for me at first. I realize now what the problem was--the 1098T from the school was entered before the 1099Q, and this changed the software logic in TT (TT began evaluating my eligibility for education tax credits as per IRS Pub 970 Ch.2+3, but did not evaluate if the 529 distribution qualified as nontaxable under IRS Pub 970 Ch.8). Deleting the 1098T, then entering the 1099Q info, then re-entering the 1098T, reset the logic, and allowed TT to query about the room and board expenses. Thanks for the help!

Does this situation still apply if you are doing your 2018 taxes or has it been corrected?
