STUDENT LOAN INTEREST

Only the person whose name is on the student loan and who is legally obligated to pay the loan can deduct the student loan interest.  If you did not sign or co-sign for the loan you cannot deduct the interest.

You cannot deduct student loan interest if you are being claimed as someone else’s dependent, or if you are filing as married filing separately.

The student loan interest deduction can reduce your taxable income by up to $2500

Enter the interest you paid for your student loan by going to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Education>Student Loan Interest Paid in 2016 (Form 1098E)

If you did not sign or co-sign for the loan, then no, no one can claim it. She cannot claim it while she is a dependent.

The 1098-Ts need to be claimed.  How much is the Tuition paid (generally in Box 1)?  How much are the Scholarships/Grants (Box 5)?

In your original question you said a 1098-E, now you say 1098T.  They are for different things.  A 1098E is for a student loan.  1098T is for tuition, etc,

That is different!  Yes, if your daughter is your dependent then the 1098T goes on your tax return.

Are you claiming her as your dependent?  If so, the Form 1098-T is entered on your tax return.

If you are not legally liable for the student loan then you cannot enter the Form 1098-E, student loan interest, on your tax return.

If you are not claiming her as your dependent, then you cannot enter the Form 1098-T on your return.  She can file her own tax return reporting the 1098-T and the 1098-E on her tax return.

Since i will not be able to enter 1098T and 1098E, is it necessary to file them?

No.

A 1098T (education expenses) is different than the 1098E (student loan interest).  For the 1098T a parent can deduct the eligible expenses as long as the student is a dependent.
