How do I make sure my refund does not get taken towards my school loan as I’ve had an active Navient account for over the past year and also am enrolled in autopay?

Unfortunately, if you're delinquent on your student loan payments, it's almost assured that the IRS will reduce any refund you might have coming this year, potentially even taking the whole refund, to offset any student loan debt that you might have.

You can find out if your refund will "offset" any student loan debt by calling the Bureau of the Fiscal Service's Treasury Offset Program.  See the IRS' Topic Number 203 - Reduced Refund for the phone number.

Please see the TurboTax article "What is a refund offset?" for additional information.
