I do not want to remove my 1098-T form completely because then I would lose the Lifetime Learning Credit. IRS sent me a notice that I've claimed the AOC already for four tax years.
As you go through the questions after entering your 1098-T information, you will come to a screen that asks if you ever received the American Opportunity or Hope Credit, and if so, how many years it was claimed. See the screen shot below. If you answer that you claimed the credit for 4 years, it will make you ineligible for the American Opportunity Credit and you will get the Lifetime Learning Credit instead.
In the education interview, you are asked how many times you (and/or your parents) have claimed the AOC on your education. Answer 4. That will prevent TurboTax (TT) from giving you the AOC. TT will then give you the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC).
Alternatively, type letme (no space between let & me) in the search box. Then press enter. Then click on the link "jump to letme''.
TT will give you the option to select another tuition credit or deduction.
If that doesn't work, Type letme (no space between let & me) in the search box. When the dropdown list appears, click on letme rather than "jump to letme'. On the next drop down, click on the "jump to letme” link.
TT will give you the option to select another tuition credit or deduction.
