My wife studies in the University of London - London School of Econ's distant learning program. We paid tuition in 2018. The University is eligible for FAFSA and has the following school code: G06693. However, the University did not send us a 1098-T. For tax filing purposes, I entered our tuition expenses but the IRS requires the University's EIN # which usually comes in the 1098-T. So how or where can I obtain that - and if the school does not have an EIN number, then what is the protocol?
You actually do not need EIN/Tax ID to enter you education expenses from a FAFSA eligible foreign institution.
When you get to the 1098-T entry, you can say that you don't have a 1098-T and there is an exception. The program will then let you enter the expenses without the form. And, you will not need an EIN.
We need to EIN number to get the American Opportunity Credit. Without the EIN number, we do not get that so the refund is lower.
I found another post that used this number for EIN information.

That's the EIN number for University of London? Could you provide a link to that post?
The reason I did not include the link, is that it includes a spreadsheet you have to download to see the numbers. I don't like recommending people to download things. I DO NOT think it's an EIN number, but a number you can use for University of London to work in the program. Foreign schools are not required to have an EIN.
It's in the comments section at the very bottom of this post:

Thank you for providing the link. I have NOT filed yet - but entered the number you provided in the EIN field and TurboTax did not generate an 'incorrect EIN' message - so assuming that this is a valid EIN.
Would you be able to repost that link. It seems to have been discontinued. Thank you.
