Do you know if they are waiving student loan debt from being taken from refund this year due to everything going on this past year?

Your tax refund will not be offset this year to pay for your student loans.

Due to the coronavirus, the Department of Education is stopping tax offsets through September 30, 2021, and issuing refunds to those who received an offset. See this press release.

On March 20, 2020, the office of Federal Student Aid began providing the following temporary relief on ED-owned federal student loans: suspension of loan payments, stopped collections on defaulted loans, and a 0% interest rate.

On Jan. 20, 2021, the COVID-19 emergency relief measures were extended on ED-owned federal student loans through Sept. 30, 2021.

Please read this Department of Education document.
