Do I claim the total college expense listed in 1098-T for my daughter even if I only paid 1/2 and my ex paid the other 1/2? For 2023 she is my dependent.

Q. Do I claim the total college expense listed in 1098-T for my daughter even if I only paid 1/2?

A. Yes. Because she is your dependent, only you can claim the tuition credit.

Although the general rule, in taxes, is that you must be the one making the payment, to get the deduction or credit, there is an exception for education. You can claim what the ex paid.
