Didn't receive a 1098 even though I paid tuition expenses out of pocket it 2023

I found some information that seemed to help me with my situation here:  https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/college-education/discussion/1098-t-question-received-in-2016-with-box-7-checked-but-attended-spring-2017-term-did-not-receive-a/00/444171

I am not sure if this information is still current, however. Basically my school billed me in 2022 but I paid in 2023. I was only enrolled during the semester that overlapped years. I am not only looking for a good answer but some type of good documentation out there on the IRS site or wherever that will basically confirm that the information in the post I made a reference to is true. There just seems to be a lot of debate about it, but my college is basically telling me the same thing that's in that post. Thanks for any help.

Yes, the information provided by @KrisD is still true today. As long as you can prove that you paid the money in 2023, you are good to claim the expenses.
