Claiming the American Opportunity Credit for a foreign school

Hello, I went to school in Canada at a Title IV school and qualify for the American Opportunity Credit. Since the school is in Canada, they do not give 1098-T. They do give a similar tax form called the T2202 - Tuition and Enrollment Certificate (in CAD currency). Should I include a copy of this when sending in my taxes? As I am claiming the American Opportunity Credit

Q. Should I include a copy of this when sending in my taxes?

A. No. You do not send "proof" when you file your tax return. That comes later, if you are questioned by the IRS.

First verify that you school is an "eligible institution".

In TurboTax, you will be asked of you got a 1098-T.  If you answer no, you will be asked if you qualify for an exception. Answer yes.
