You can claim the student loan interest deduction if all of the following apply:

·         You actually paid interest on a qualified student loan in tax year 2017;

·         You're legally obligated (ie. You are a cosigner) to pay interest on a qualified student

           loan.

·         No one else is claiming you as a dependent on their tax return

·         Your filing status isn't married filing separately;

·         Your income is less than a specified amount which is set annually.

To enter student loan interest:

·        Type in 1098e in the search box, top right of your screen, then click the magnifying glass

·        Click the jump to 1098e link in the search results

·        Follow to prompts and online instructions
