Can I claim payments I made on a Parent Plus loan for the education of a child who is no longer a dependant?

You can deduct student loan interest paid from a Parent Plus loan. It does not matter whether the child is a dependent or not.

  1.  search for 1098-E (upper- or lower-case, with or without the dash).
  2. Select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes to the question Did you make any student loan payments?
