Am I eligible for any education credits if amount of scholarships & grants is more than amount billed for qualified tuition?

My son is in college & I claim him as a dependent.  I did not receive form 1098-T, but I can view it on college website.  Am I eligible for any education credits if amount of scholarships & grants is more than amount billed for qualified tuition?

If the amount of the grants exceed qualified educational expenses actually paid for, then you will have taxable income in which case the student will have to claim it on his/her return.

If the excess plus any additional income he earned in 2017 is less than his Standard Deduction (assuming earned income was from a W-2) of $6,350, he will not be required to file a return)

If educational expenses actually paid for exceed grants/scholarships, then you will claim both on your return-and in that event, you may receive an educational credit.

To enter educational expenses:

·       Type in 1098-t in the search box, top right of your screen, hit the Enter key

·       Click jump to 1098-t in the search results

·       Follow the prompts and online instructions
