Am I blocked from filing my taxes because it says I qualify for the "lifetime learning credit." My deductions list that I do not qualify for that credit. How to clear it?

I do not want this credit, but I cannot file my taxes using the free program because it claims I am using it. I do not qualify for that credit.

Did you say in MY  INFO that you were a student in 2024?   Can you go back to that screen and change it?

If you don't qualify for the Lifetime Learning Credit,  or want to eliminate it, you'll have to delete the forms that are related to education credits.

If you see form 8863 and form 1098-T, delete them. Click here for instructions

You can claim the Lifetime Learning credit against your taxes of up to $2,000 a year per tax return, but you won’t receive a refund if the credit is greater than your tax bill. In other words, if you don't owe any tax, the credit can't be applied to your return.

As stated previously, either change your student status to "not a student" and/or delete Forms 8863 and 1098-T
