Why do i need to file Schedule D?

I keep being told I need to upgrade because Schedule D is required by the IRS, however I had no investments in 2018, How can I get turbotax to go past this?

Do you have qualified dividend income?

If you have no dividend income and no sales of any assets (not just investments) I am not sure why it wants you to do a Sch D.  Anything else unusual on the return?

Not that I can see, can you please advise?  I have stocks in 2017 that I sold and entered on my 2018 return. But in the year of 2018 I had no capital gains or investments.

OK you have a capital loss carryforward from 2017?

Did you say you entered stocks that were sold in 2017 on the 2018 return?

If you have a capital loss carry-forward, or and/or any stock sold listed you will need a Sch D.

2017 stock sales should not be entered in the 2018 return other than as a capital loss carry-forward.
