This would be helpful if the search function worked, but as it does not this is completely useless information
Same. Trying to fill out Schedule C "miscellaneous expenses" (bought a new computer) for 2019. The directions say to search for Schedule C, but clicking Search opens a page with a phone number (hold time is more than an hour) and a bloody useless FAQ and that's it. No search function! Grrr.
To go to the Schedule C, use these steps:
The miscellaneous expenses will be at the end of the list of business expenses where you can enter a description and amount.
I'm trying to e-file but it says I need a "link to schedule c". The box says: "double click to link to", but there's no actual link..and when I search for schedule c and do the jump thing, it brings me to my 1099 jobs but I don't know what to do next. Thank you!
If you entered a 1099-NEC, there is an issue with linking them to Schedule C. Click this link for more info Linking a 1099-NEC to Schedule C.
Currently there is a known issue when using TurboTax Online that is related to the program asking you to double-click to link to Schedule C.
Please review the article below and use the link in the article to enter your email address to be notified once this is resolved:
TurboTax: Why Am I Unable to Link my 1099-NEC?
Also you can review the information below for a possible steps to solve the issue.
Income reported on Form 1099-NEC must be reported on Schedule C, the program is trying to link these two forms together to be sure that it is reported correctly and on the right form.
Revisit the section where you entered the Form 1099-NEC if you entered it on its own and delete that entry, by following these steps:
This will bring you a summary of all Form 1099-NEC that you have entered. Click Delete or the trash can icon next to each one.
Next, you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC as part of the Schedule C so that the income is reported directly as part of your Business Income and Expenses and within the correct form and section of your return.
Follow these steps to go to the Schedule C section of your return:
If you already have created a Schedule C in your return, click on edit and go to the section to Add Income. This is where you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC.
If you do not already have a Schedule C in your return, follow the prompts and enter the information about your work/business for which you received the Form 1099-NEC. Then continue through that section to Add Income and enter the Form 1099-NEC along with any additional income you received for that business.
Once you have completed this, the error should be eliminated.
Nope. Still not working. I followed your instructions but when I go to file it says 'But we found a couple little things on your federal return that need fixing.'
Click 'Fix Federal Return'.
Takes me right back to the problem where it wants me to link a Schedule C. When I double click in the field, a link comes up but it won't let me continue.
The Form 1099-NEC can be removed due to this experience. Delete the form before you begin your entry. You can enter your cash sales without using the Form 1099-NEC if you choose. Next, best advice is to clear you cache and cookies from our browser (and often to eliminate your computer from remembering data that should be gone).
The income can be entered directly, without using the 1099-NEC . The following steps will help.
The IRS does not required the actual form entry, only that all income is included in your return. Keep the form with your tax records.
If you prefer, you can also enter your email for notification of the update by clicking here, then scrolling to 'please update here' to enter your email.
Still glitching. I've cleared my cache a dozen times.
I've tried the 'other self employed income'.
Every time I try and file it takes me to the schedule C and want me to link something.
These seemed like straightforward directions but I am not sure it worked. It is asking me again to enter the Schedule C for the 1099 NEC. I deleted it and re-added it.
Also, now it is asking me
1040/1040SR Wks: Line 11 is too large. |

OK...I finally got it to work but I had to go by it a slightly different route.
On the page where it says to enter your wages, I kept deleting my 1099-NEC information. The page would show it was gone, my refund would recalculate and everything seemed good. When I reentered the info, I would still get the error for the Schedule C. When I put in 1099-NEC in the search and jumped to that direct page, it had listed several of the 1099-NECs that I entered and thought I deleted. I deleted them from that page and was finally able to reenter the information again and the return was accepted.
why didn't turbo tax produce a schedule C? I can not find one, I have entered all my 1099-nec
I can not click on that link.. error message keeps recurring. what do I do?
The link did not work for me either @appleabcd - If you want to review your income on Schedule C, search for Schedule C in the search bar and use the Jump to Schedule C link to be taken there. Once you are in the Schedule C entry screen, choose to EDIT your Self-Employment Income. Your 1099-NEC should be included there. If you keep getting errors, delete that 1099-NEC and re-enter it from that screen. You won't be able to fix it from the review, so try going back inside your entries - it will be easier to fix from there.
thank you. I will try this however unfortunately I have already submitted my taxes, I am expecting it to be returned or delayed because I did not realize schedule C was missing until after I submitted . I am upset over this. It is very late here so I will try and do what you suggest tomorrow , I can at least try and fix my errors and be ready when IRS returns my taxes. I really wonder why turbo tax did not automatically create a schedule C ? That is upsetting . Thank you
I see. If you have already filed, you can't make the changes until you do the amendment and the amendment form for 2020 won't be ready until 03/25. However, are you sure that Schedule C was not included with the 1099-NEC income on it? The Schedule C income should be reflected on Line 3 of Schedule 1 and this amount will also be included on your Form 1040 on Line 8. @appleabcd
hello. I just read your response from last night. I double checked my return and I see Form 1040 line 8 has an amount filled in however nothing on line 3 of schedule 1. It is blank. What does that mean? I guess that is why no schedule C printed out when I printed a copy before I submitted, I am new at doing taxes so that is why I did not noticed until after I submitted it that I do not have a printed copy. So line 3 of Schedule 1 I did notice that it says attach Schedule C but I thought turbo tax would do that? do you know what this all means? thank you
