Where can I add taxable scholarship information? I do not have a 1089T no edu expenses. It should be on line1 of 1040 as "SCH $X" but can't find right section to add

I have taxable scholarship information without a 1098T and no additional educational expenses (I am a graduate fellow). In years past when I have gotten taxes prepared, this is added as line 1 of the 1040 as "SCH" and then then amount. I cannot click through the right section to find where to add this misc. income - everything online says to go to the educational deductions tab, but there's no place to add scholarship money that isn't on a 1098T. Thanks!

Go through the education expenses section.

  • When it asks if you got a 1098-T answer No.
  • On the next screen, "let's see if you qualify for an exception," select "None of these apply."
  • Continue through the questions without entering any expenses.
  • You will get to a screen titled "Scholarships and Financial Aid." Click Continue.
  • On the next screen, "Did You Receive a Scholarship or Grant in 2020?" select Yes. Then enter the amount in the box for "Other Scholarships/Grants/Fellowships."

Continue through the rest of the questions. After the screen "Your Education Expenses Summary" you will get a screen that says "You can't claim an education tax break." The amount that you entered will be shown on Form 1040 line 1 with the SCH notation.
