What to do if I cannot get to the Expenses section for Schedule C?

I have tried repeatedly to find where to enter these, to no avail. Any directions would be very much appreciated.

Figured it out myself finally. TurboTax could have made this easier but at least I figured it out.

You can add the expenses for your business in Schedule C. 

 

Here's how to do this in TurboTax Online:

  • Navigate to Federal > Wages & Income > Self-employment income and expenses
  • Edit the business or add if not listed
  • Choose Add Expense
  • Find the type of expense in the list of expense options (you may need to do this a few times, depending on how many expenses you have) 
  • Continue and the chosen expense(s) will appear in the list of expenses. Choose pencil icon to add the amount of the expense

Thank you for your response. The file path you indicate "Federal > Wages & Income > Self-employment income and expenses" does not appear for me even though I have a 1099-NEC. That is the problem I am trying to solve. Any ideas?

Your problem could be caused by how you entered the Form 1099-C.  First delete the form and then re-enter the information as a Schedule C.  Once you delete the form and re-enter it correctly, you should be able to see the steps that MindyB mentioned.  

 

Here are the steps to delete your Form 1099-NEC:

 

  1. Open your return.
  2. Go to Tax Home
  3. Select Tax Tools in the left menu
  4. Click on Tools
  5. A pop-up will come out called Tool Center
  6. Select Delete a form
  7. Select Delete next to the Form 1099-NEC that you want to delete

To enter the self-employment income and expenses:

 

  1. Open or continue your return
  2. Go to Schedule C
  3. Enter your income information 
  4. On the question, Did you have any self-employment income or expenses? Answer yes
  5. Select any expense categories you have
  6. A list of the expenses you selected will come up on the next screen and you can edit each category
  7. Enter the expense you have
