I made a mistake by saying I was going to depreciate an asset for a rental, when I am really not depreciating it. I now want to fix that by deleting form 4562. When I delete the form in the Forms view, it immediately gets recreated by Turbotax.
How can I permanently delete it?
It will not delete when it has important information. You will need to delete the asset to eliminate the 4562. Once the asset is deleted, verify the form 4562 is deleted. Then you can enter the asset again.
There aren't any Asset Worksheets in my list of Forms. Is there someplace I can look to find the worksheet?
When using TurboTax Desktop you can use the link below to delete any form or worksheet in your tax return. If you select Form 4562, from your list you can delete it.
I would also advice to perform a manual update to your TurboTax Desktop.
If you continue to have the same experience you can use the following information for assistance.
If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: (Don't forget to give us the state)
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
I sent a diagnostic file, My token is 124412125-11869331 and my state is MN.
Thank you for sending the file. The reason Form 4562 is included in your tax file is simply because of the vehicle expense/standard mileage rate. If you scroll down to Section B you will see the vehicle information and the questions that are answered. There is nothing being carried to the tax return from Form 4562 (only the standard mileage rate is being used from the information you entered), but the information is provided there and will be filed with your tax return.
Are you saying that because I am using the standard mileage rate for an auto deduction on Schedule E, form 4562 is required? That does not seem correct since 4562 is for Depreciation and Amortization. I am not depreciating my automobile.
