I am trying to amend my 1065.
(for LLC own by spouse and me)
I see numerous posts here saying 1065X can only be printed and mailed to the IRS center where the original 1065 was filed to.
some posts imply that there is some way to amend 1065, (not using 1065X?? maybe I understood wrong)
in the meanwhile, IRS website states-
Amended returns will be required to be e-filed if taxpayer is required to file electronically based on the regulations unless...
hence the 2 questions:
To amend 1065= 1065X?
E-file, or have to print and mail?
You probably did not elect out of the BBA (do not ask if you don't know) so you will print and mail a 1065-X.
Addendum:
It is written in Page 2 of i1065x:
Form 1065-X should only be used to make a paper filing.
I don’t know why IRS provides confusing information on “Guidance for amended partnership returns”.

That would be because the IRS is confused, just generally.
So - how do I amend a 1065? Looks like the final conclusion here was 'don't use 1065-X'.
I have called the help line 3 or 4 times, each time they tell me to wait (last time they said "after 3/17 you can amend") and I'll be able to do it.
Using Business Desktop it allows me to select Amend a Return, and it generates a 1065-X; but going through the prompts I end up at the 'e-file' screen and then it tells me I have nothing to e-file as I have already filed the return. I have the 1065-X but as noted before "send to the place you sent your return" doesn't work! Help.
The conclusion was -do file the amended 1065- but paper file it. There is not a 1065-X, You file the 1065 and mark box 5, amended return. Mailing address depends on location, see:
