Started Self Employment Date

Hello,

I have been running and growing a business for just over two years now. Last year, 2020, I just reported my income from self-employment as "other" income. This year I have grown and reported it as a side job. I'm on the self-employed section that asks when I started work. This seems to be about the personal income, so would I say January 1st, 2021? Or would I put the date that the company was technically incorporated (mid-October)? Or would I put that I didn't start or stop business, even though last year I didn't report it as a side job/self-employment?

1/1/2021 is correct for a 2021 return.

Let's just make sure we are all on the same page.

You state "or would I put the date that the company was technically incorporated.....".

Is this an accurate statement?  If so, you are needing to file a separate business tax return in addition to your personal tax return.

Registering with the state does not necessarily mean you are incorporated.

So please clarify so you can get proper guidance; are you actually incorporated or are you just a sole proprietor?
