Should I file a Schedule H if I incorrectly used 941? Or should I use 941-X to correct it?

I'm a household employer and realize now that I was supposed to just use a Schedule H annually.

However, I thought I was supposed to use for 941 to pay federal taxes quarterly. I calculated the quarterly taxes and paid it via EFTPS and thought that's all I had to do. I did not submit any physical or electronic forms 941. I only sent the tax payment in EFTPS.

What do I do now? Still file a Schedule H and then use 941-X to try to get back the initial payment? Don't file a Schedule H and submit (late) the 941s?

File Schedule H.

File 941s (not 941-X), showing $0 of wages and your payments.

You can contact them, however, even the 1040X takes up to 16 weeks to process on a normal year.  This year they are still processing returns from last year, so they are pretty well backed up.

It may take a few months for them to process it.

I filed 941's saying $0 wages and the overpayment I made asking the IRS to send a refund. It's been almost 3 months and I've heard nothing - is there something I should do now? Just wait?
