Need help getting to the section where I enter an EIN for my business. I am SE and most businesses pay me under my SS#. However, one required I use an EIN

UPDATED FOR TAX YEAR 2019

 

To enter an EIN for your business, please follow these steps:

 

  1. Click on the Income & Expenses tab.
  2. In the Self-Employment section click the Start/Revisit box.
  3. On the screen, Your 2019 self-employed work summary, click the Edit box next to your business.  
  4. On the Here's your [business type] info screen, click on the Edit box next to General Info.  
  5. On the next screen, click Edit  in Payments and identification.
  6. n the screen, Do you have your own Employer ID Number (EIN)?  Mark the Yes radio button.  Enter your EIN in the box that appears and click Continue.

Just to help you out for the future, when it comes to business matters never give out your SSN. They only need your EIN. If someone whom you do business with tells you otherwise, they're wrong. Since the EIN is issued by the IRS, and the only reason anyone needs it is for tax purposes, the IRS knows what SSN that EIN is tied to. So your clients only need your EIN.
