I had a baby in October 2020. Turbo Tax "calculations" state that I received the correct stimulus payment even though I didn't. How do I file for this?

Did you add your baby under My Info? Be sure when it asks how long your child lived with you that you pick THE WHOLE YEAR (which is acceptable for newborns) and not just the number of months. Go back and double check that.  This screen shot is from 2019 but should be the same for 2020.

Your newborn baby is eligible for both stimulus payments. You enter your child as a dependent on your 2020 tax return and indicate that he/she lived with you the whole year. You can then claim the stimulus payments as the Recovery rebate credit on your 2020 tax return.

In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

  1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen
  3. On the next page titled Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click on Continue
  4. Follow the interview
  5. TurboTax will determine whether you are entitled to any additional stimulus
  6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of your form 1040.
