I didn't get the NYS Empire State Credit, line 65. I should have

I don't even know if Turbo Tax filed my state return?

It depends. If you received the federal earned income credit, then you are eligible and must complete Form IT-215.

To see whether this was included in your return, download your tax return and scroll to Form IT-201, line 65 and Form IT-215.

  • To download your 2020 tax return, from the left menu, select Tax Home. Then, follow these steps:
    • Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and Show.
    • Navigate to the option to download the PDF of your return.
      • The forms are named in the top left and lower right hand corners of each page.
  • Also, look for any directions at the beginning of the state return about filing.

For more information, see:

Instructions for Form IT-201 Full-Year Resident Income Tax Return Tax Year 2020, page 28

Instructions for Form IT-215 Claim for Earned Income Credit Tax Year 2020

Also, try returning to your Jobs (W-2) screen. To do this, inside TurboTax, enter W2 in the search box. Select the Jump to link in the search results.

  • Once at the W-2 Input, select the W-2 and click Continue.
  • The next screen will have the box 14 input for W-2. If you have an entry in “Box 14 – Category” that says “New York IRC 414(h) NY tax exempt,” then
    • For the corresponding input for “Box 14 – Description”, append the phrase “NOT” to whatever their current text is in that field.
    • For example, if EXP is entered, change it to read EXPNOT

This workaround will provide you with the option to e-file if you did not initially see it.

I'm having the same problem. I initially began working on my tax return on March 25th. I had qualified for Earned Income Credits for both Federal and NY state. When I came back to work on the forms today, April 3rd, I had no Earned Income Credits for NY state and no option to review it in the Credits section. Form IT-215 was also removed from my tax return. Clicking on 'Earned Income Credit' In NY state tax form only leads to filling out line 66 "NYS noncustodial parent EIC" No other information was changed during this time period.

Same here. Did not get the NYS and NYC earned income credit filed with Turbotax. Do you know how to solve this problem?
