I cannot file. Turbo tax is missing Form 8606T and 8606S. What is the deal? It is February 14 already....and still missing forms?

The 8606 is currently estimated for 2/15/18 but that is subject to change. The IRS just published the paper/PDF 2017 version of the 8606 on Feb 2 and only issued the 2017 8606 instructions on 2/7/18.

The next scheduled TurboTax update is on Feb 15.

The IRS says the 8606 will not be available until 2/22.

Form and instructions have been available now for over a week.  My entries one 8606 are not related to any changes due to hurricanes.  What takes so long to update the program?

The IRS has to approve TT's programming of it first.

My main complaint is that TT hasn't updated their website to reflect the new date.  If it isn't going to be ready today, then their website should be updated to reflect that change.

This date keeps moving out.

This is only a Turbo Tax issue, Tax Act and H&R Block are processing these same returns without delay.

TurboTax has no other purpose than to be ready for this when the IRS completes the forms. The IRS has the forms ready. You folks already pushed back the date. No excuses. You said it would be done today. If I wanted to wait several weeks to file, I'd hire an accountant.

The IRS web site said the 8606 would available Feb 12 and had a scheduled update for the MeF (Modernized e-file system) Sunday (Feb 11) night.    The TurboTax  date of Feb 15 was to allow testing time after the IRS update.

Now the IRS site says Feb 22 for the 8606, so I assume that the changes did not get applied to the IRS system as anticipated.

(From what I have read in other discussion groups, H&R B also says the 8606 is delayed)

If the IRS isn't releasing the form until 2/22 then when will it hit TT?  We are getting desperate here, the whole reason we cashed in some IRA $$ was because of a cash flow situation WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY GETTING WORSE.  Is it true another service is already filing this?  Because we already paid TT, more's the pity....

OMG this form is TOTALLY ALREADY AVAILABLE on the IRS website!  Can I get a refund from TT?  I will just file with another service!!

If the IRS has not updated the MeF (Modern e-File system) that all e-file providers use, it makes no difference.

The paper/pdf form is not the same as the e-file data schema that e-file uses.

The IRS  says the 8606 will not be available until 2/22.

Why is all this info so different?

Last minute tax law changes by Congress always cause delays.

The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 that was just passes on Feb 9th  retroactively extended the tuition and  fees deduction, PMI, energy credits and other deductions to Jan 1 or 2017.  The IRS has no idea how long it will take to  make all of those form changes.   If the one 8606 has taken this long, that new law will change about 10 more forms.

This is absurd.  I owe a penalty and every day that passes the penalty gets greater.  Unacceptable.

But is it really true that this is a TT issue?  What about Loyalcustomer above who says he/she has managed to file 8606 with HR Block?

All I know is what the IRS says.   Just it can be filed does not mean that the IRS will process it.

The IRS  says the 8606 will not be available until 2/22.

UPDATE:  A update was just released about half an hour ago.   The 8606 is available to file after applying the update.

That's good news.  How do I apply the update with the web-based version?

TurboTax does that automatically - probably tonight when traffic is low.

The IRS Website still says 2/11 for this form availability.

The IRS  Free File Fillable Forms  might be something different.
