I am a Non-Resident Alien (NRA) can I use TurboTax Business to file Form 1065 for a partnership and then handle my personal tax filing (Form 1040NR) separately on my own

I am a Non-Resident Alien (NRA) for tax purposes, and I understand that TurboTax does not support Form 1040NR for personal tax filings. However, can I use TurboTax Business to file Form 1065 for a partnership and then handle my personal tax filing (Form 1040NR) separately on my own using another tool like Sprintax? Would this approach cause any issues?

@peterbestwork  assuming that both you and your partnership each have TIN  ( Tas ID -- SSN, ITIN, EIN ) there should be no issue in using  TurboTax  Business  ( federal and state ) for filing 1065 and the K-1 to the partners and then do your own individual using something like  SprinTax or  a tax professional.

BTW, you say you are NRA  partner in a US Partnership,  -----  (a) does this mean you are in foreign land or residing in the USA,  (b) where is the partnership registered ;  (c)  why do you have to file US taxes ,  (d) etc. etc.

Please respond and I will circle back

Thank you @pk

Thank you for your response! To answer your questions:

(a) I am currently residing in the USA as an NRA (Non-Resident Alien) for tax purposes.

(b) The partnership is registered in the USA.

(c) Although the partnership has no income, assets, or operations, it was registered and is still required to file Form 1065 to comply with IRS regulations. Filing Form 1065 and issuing K-1s (even with zero activity) is necessary to maintain compliance.

Thank you for confirming that TurboTax Business can handle Form 1065 and K-1 preparation. I’ll also use Sprintax or a tax professional for my individual filing. Please let me know if there’s anything else I should be aware of. I appreciate your help!

@peterbestwork  than kl you for closing the loop.

Yes your  requirements and assumptions are correct.

I am assuming here that  you are here on a non-work visa  and have not passed the  Substantial Presence Test.

I will assume that all your questions have been answered , even though I am not quite sure  that I understand your need to file a return -- too many  unknowns.   If you do wish more on this  but do not wish information on public board, you are quite welcome to PM me  but with NO PII ( Personally Identifiable Information ).
