To e-file with a Power of Attorney, you need to complete and send Form 8453 with Form 2848* to the IRS within 3 business days after your e-file is accepted.

*Or other POA stating you have authority to file the tax return.

According to the IRS, if you have a CAF number on file and in good standing, there is no need to file the Form 2848 or Form 8453. Rather, they say to cross out the tax preparer info designation and write "POA" in its place with the CAF number. Then sign it on behalf of the filer.

However, Turbotax doesn't seem to have a way to indicate you're filing for someone else or the best way to general the signature docs. I've searched for a consistent answer for this and haven't found it.

My mother passed away last year.  It seems I must file a copy of her death certificate along with a form I completed online.

This because my POA ended when she passed.

I have CAF no. issued in 2018 - for my mother who lives abraod.

How do I know if its still valid?

If it is valid - can I efile for her using TT premier cd version? if yes what additional thing I need to do when I file for her?
