How do I get the box on line 18 of Schedule A unchecked?

My total itemized deductions are less than the standard deduction

Change from standard to itemized deductions or vice-versa:

  1. Open your tax return and select Federal, then Deductions & Credits.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and select Continue.
  3. Answer all the questions, until you get to the screen Based on what you just told us, the Standard Deduction is best for you or Based on what you just told us, itemizing deductions is best for you.
  4. On that screen, select Change my deduction.
    • You'll see a pop-up showing how much each deduction is worth.
  5. If you want to change your deduction, select it and Continue.
  6. If you don't want to change your deduction, select Cancel.

In the forms view go to the "Info Wks" -> "Part VI - Additional Information for Your Federal Return" and uncheck the first box that says "Check this box if you are itemizing for state tax or other purposes even though your itemized deductions are less than your standard deduction".

I was not able to get Turbo Tax to recognize this change when making it in the EasyStep workflow and was only able to make the change in the Info Wks section of the forms view.

Hope this helps.

I could not get it to work through Easy Step or by unchecking the box on Schedule A.  However, your fix to uncheck the box in the Info Worksheet, Part VI worked perfectly.  Thanks.
