To enter your charitable contribution carryover:

  • Continue working on your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click Tax Tools (lower left side of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the I'm looking for: box, type donations.
  • In the results bar, highlight donations, then click GO.
  • Answer Yes when asked Did you make any donations to charity?
  • Answer No when asked Do you have an account with ItsDeductible Online?
  • Continue with the onscreen instructions. Answer Yes to Do you have any charitable carryovers from 2016? (Click the first screenshot below for reference.)
  • Continue with the onscreen instructions. Your carryover will be limited to 50% or 30% (or 20%) of your adjusted gross income (AGI) depending on the type of charity to which you contributed. Click the Learn more link on each screen to help you determine which situation applies to you. (Click the screenshots below for reference.)

Note: If using the TurboTax CD/Download software, you'll use the Find function and the "Jump to" link (instead of "Tax Tools") to search for "donations".
