Entertainment deduction

If I enter expenses for entertainment tickets, how come Turbotax Business doesn't know these are no longer deductible?  Shouldn't the interview guide me through this?

Yes, the interview should guide you through the return entry.

The reason you still have the capability of entering Form 2106 deductions in the TurboTax federal return is because some states still allow the employee business expense deduction.

So, for the taxpayers in the states who still allow employee business expense deduction, they must enter them through the federal return to  have them carry to the state return.

But shouldn't the program know to exclude it for Federal purposes?

No, Turbo Tax will not warned you if expenses are deductible or non-deductible. The person navigating the program must be  aware that not all business expenses are qualified  business expense.

The 2017 TCJA generally eliminated the deduction for any expenses related to activities generally considered entertainment, amusement or recreation. However, taxpayers may still deduct business expenses related to food and beverages if certain requirements are met.

Thanks. Not sure why the program shouldn't track what is deductible and what isn't.  The personal version seems to do this via the interview.  The business version should as well.
