My 1099-Misc is for a UAW legal services plan benefit. Instructions with the 1099 specifically say that it does not require a Schedule C filing. I followed the instructions found on TurboTax support to enter this information ($22 in Box 7) stating that it is only for this year and there was no intent to earn cash. It does not report as business income, but the Turbo Tax program keeps saying there are errors involving the Schedule C. It won't let me e-file as a result. How do I get past this so I can file?
I'm familiar with the 1099-MISC from the UAW legal services benefit. It is taxable income, and you are correct that it does not need to be reported on Schedule C.
I would include it on Schedule 1 (Form 1040), line 21, as Other Income.
Under Wages & Income, click I'll choose what I work on. Scroll to the very bottom of the list, and under Less Common Income, select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C. On the next page, click the Start button next to Other Reportable Income. In the interview that begins, click Yes, and on the next page, enter the details about this income and click Continue.
