Do i have to extend my personal taxes if my K1 form won't be ready in time?

I receive a K1 form every year for a rental house my brother and i have.  this year he said they had to ask for an extension on the LLC taxes so now i'm wondering if that means i have to extend my personal taxes as well since i won't get that form in time.  or if there is some other option to add that form later.  thanks.

You have two options:

  1. You can file your return now and then file an amended return when you receive the K-1; OR
  2. If you want to save yourself from filing an amended return later, you could file for an extension for your 1040 return.

If you choose to file an extension, please follow these steps:
  1. While in your return, type extension  in the Search box at the top right of your screen.
  2. Click the Jump to extension link
  3. On the screen, Need More Time to File Your Return, click the box Start Easy Extension.
  4. On the next screen, click Continue.

If you want to file now and then amend your return once you receive the K-1, please see the steps in the following FAQ:
