Can I report a 1099 k in a business partner's name if my name is on the 1099?

My boyfriend and I both ran an ebay business together but he was working on it full time. the 1099k is in my name as the paypal account was in my name. Paypal informed me that a tax professional would be able to show us how to file the 1099 under my boyfriend's name instead of mine. Is that possible?

You would need to originally include it on your own Schedule C and then expense it to him with an explanation. You will both need the Self-employed Edition. See the screen shot below.

  • Click on Federal Taxes on the top row of TurboTax Self Employed Online.
  • Click Wages & Income
  • Under All Income, click Show all income
  • Scroll to Self-Employment, click Start
  • Click Yes to Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?
  • Enter any income from sales or services that weren't reported on Forms 1099-MISC

How do I expense a 1099 to another person on my tax return?

See the instructions above. Enter the income as your own. Put it as a miscellaneous expense with the explanation that the 1099 had the wrong name. Put his name and social. Alternatively, you could record the expense under contract labor and issue him a 1099-MIsc. but this is more complicated and it makes it look like the business is really yours.
