As a dj/independent contractor, payments are made to my legal name. I do have a Dj name I use in public, not registered as a DBA. What’s my business name on Schedule C?

My 1099’s are issued to my legal name.  My Dj monikor is different than my legal name, and used for branding and social media but not registered as a DBA, LLC etc.  Do I leave the business name blank since I am paid to my legal name?

Leave the business name line blank if you do not have a separate business name (as in a DBA and not just a moniker).

Your business name on the Sch C is simply your name if you have no other to list.

Overall, the IRS really doesn't care what you name your business on SCH C. You can call it "Murder for Hire", and so long as you pay your taxes on that income, the IRS just doesn't care. 🙂
