1065X Status and When Can I File?

I mailed in my 1065x (LLC partnership Amendment) form for 2021 and also mailed in an extension to file 2022 for my business on February 15, 2023.  The 2021 admend was to mark that a partner was Final (I forgot to mark it last year on the return).

Questions:

1. Where/how can I check the status of the 2021 1065X admend?  I haven’t received anything in the mail from the IRS of acceptance/rejection.

2. When can I file my 2022 1065 business taxes and personal taxes?

Thank you in advance.

James

Unfortunately, the only way to find out about the status for your entity return amendment is to call the IRS. However, it's been less than 12 weeks since you mailed it in. I would give them another month before calling. Here is the number: 800-829-4933.

Sometimes, it's very difficult to get through the general IRS number. Another option could be to call your Local IRS Office. Use this link to locate an office in your area.

As for filing 2022 return, I don't see any reason to wait if you are ready to file it.

The IRS has millions of unprocessed paper returns.  They are working through these to the best of their ability.

Having said that, I am not sure you will hear back from the IRS since technically nothing changed on the return other than indicating a final K-1 for a member.

I agree that you should just move forward based on the member change and file the return.

Thank you for the reply, Kristina.

I wasn't sure if I needed to wait for the IRS to update the partnerships partner status in their system before filing so that it doesn't cause any audit triggers.

Thanks, Rick.

That's correct and the only change was the Final K1 for a member.  I will move forward to file my 2022 business tax and personal returns.
