TurboTax for Windows: "Your configuration has been modified (prd.ini, startup)..."

You can get an error stating Your configuration has been modified (prd.ini, startup)... when installing TurboTax for Windows.

Solution

Run a virus scan if you haven't done so recently. If no viruses are found, try each of these steps to see if they resolve this error.

  1. Close any programs that are running.
  2. Run Windows Updates.
  3. Temporarily disconnect from the Internet.
  4. Temporarily disable virus-protection and other security software.
  5. Install TurboTax again.
  6. You can also try installing in Selective Startup mode.
