wrong state downloaded initially and can't get rid of it

I accidentally downloaded the wrong state and started my taxes.  Upon discovering my error I downloaded the correct state and did both my federal and state taxes. When I was ready to file my taxes and was doing the review of state taxes, turbo tax included both states.  How do I get rid of the one I don't live in or have any income from?

IF you are using the "Online" bowser based software, you follow these directions:

How do I delete my state return in TurboTax Online? (intuit.com)

____________

IF you are using the Desktop/Download software:

1) Open your tax return

2) Go to the upper menu (top left on the window software) and click/hover on "File"

3) Select "Remove State Return"

4)  Select the unneeded state and delete it

Go back to start your state taxes.  Both states will be listed there.  click the garbage can to the right of the state that you don't need.

Are you using the Desktop program?  You said you downloaded the states?  Which version?  When you downloaded the right state did it charge you about $40 for the state program download? The first state download was probably free.

Yes, I saw that garbage can.  However, I need both states that I downloaded as I am doing taxes for more than one person using my CD.  I got one free with my Deluxe purchase and paid for other one.  However, both are showing up on the one return that I accidentally started using the wrong state.  I downloaded and paid for the second state, but I can't get rid of the first state on that return.  I need that first state for another return.  If I "trash" it on this "I made a mistake" return, does it totally get rid of it from my account or just on that one return?

If you truly are using the Desktop software, deleting it for the one tax return doesn't affect the fact that you've already bought it....installed it...and it is now yours to use at-will

IF you are still worried, then start a NEW tax return for the other person you are helping, and get far enough in to get the State tax return started.

Save that file (the state you don't need is now is a part of it) and then go back to your own to delete the state you don't need there..

________

Again, I stress, this is only if you are using the Desktop/download software. IF you are preparing in a browser window...that is not the desktop software.

Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ on how to delete your state return. It will remove the state you started, not an account.
How do I clear my state return in the TurboTax for Windows software?

Wrong answer, no garbage can.
