Will the date on SSN will be same for first card and re issued card?

Is the date on SSN when issued for first time will be same as the second time (re issued) card? What will be the difference between both cards? Does it mention anywhere that it is re issued?

Thank you

I hadn't heard of a re-issued card either...but I didn't research at all.   I know for a fact that when you order a replacement card, the date on it is the date it was printed.  I ordered mine the end of June, its got 7/03/2017 printed on it.

No, i had a question on SSN, started googling, nothing came up. But found some answers on SSN in this site. So, got registered and posted the question. May be it is not the right platform to ask. Please let me know if it is not, ill delete the question if possible. Sorry for any inconvenience. And if it is fine to keep the question, will wait for couple of hours and resolve it. Appreciate your time.

re-issued or a replacement card?  A replacement card will show the date it was printed and sent to you (the date it was replaced...I just had to get a replacement for mine).

@Lisa995   Just for our info, do you know what is the difference between "replacement" and "re-issued"?

I don't, that's why I presented it in the way I did.

My SS card was trashed after 30+ years...I finally ordered a replacement

Or is "re-issued" even a thing?  Maybe replaced and re-issued are the same....I did not see anything on the SSA site about "re-issuing" a card--only replacement.

I put "re-issued card" in the search box on ssa.gov and all it came up with was gender change.  So maybe that is a reason for re-issue. No idea what they do if there has been identity theft, etc.....Not sure if changing name causes re-issue or "replacement."  I think I am sticking to original answer of ask SSA.

xmasbaby0, you were very helpful. If I can, I wanted to recommend both of you and Lisa995 answers but Lisa995 answer is what I'm looking for, someone done that. Thank you

@Summer Sunny I only replied in the "comment" section, so you cannot "recommend" my replies, but thanks for the thought.

Yes, in that even if a child should qualify for the Child Tax Credit, it cannot be claimed if the date of issue of their SSN (printed on the SSN card) is after the due date of the tax return.  Example, my 15-year old son only got his SSN in Nov 2023, therefore when filing 2022 tax returns I cannot claim CTC for him, even though he "should" qualify on all other counts.

But, it seems that in this case the "Other Dependent Credit" can still be claimed in its place.

See: https://www.hrblock.com/tax-center/filing/credits/itin-child-tax-credit/

Maybe there are other ways the SSN issue date affects taxes, but this was my use case.
