Amended tax returns can take the IRS over 5 months or longer before they are processed.
Go to this IRS website for the status of an amended tax return - https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return
Amended returns are taking longer . Like 6 months or more. Did you wait to amend until the original return was done processing and you got the first refund or paid the tax due?
After 3 weeks you can track it here, https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x-/wheres-my-amended-return-1
I did not amend the return until I received my full refund. I have tried to track the amended return on the IRS website and it says I cannot access the page even using mobile data.

What happens when you go to this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return
And then click on the Blue button labeled
Amended Return Status
It has me enter my SSN, birth date, and zip code. And when I hit next, it takes me to an "access denied" page. I've tried over mobile data and wifi and it happens with both.

I just tried by typing in my Social Security number, date of birth and zip code. It took me to a screen stating no information available. Which would be true since I do not have an amended return.
You may want to clear cache on your web browser - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/troubleshooting/help/how-to-clear-your-cache/00/26135
If that does not help, consider changing your web browser to either Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge
If that does not help then restart your network router
I mailed mine March 21, and the where's my amended return tool still doesn't show that they have received one from me. How do we know if they actually received it or if it got lost in the mail when it has been longer than 3 weeks and nothing is showing on their website??
@KCtwinmom - give it 6 months - really - the IRS is WAY behind and backlogged. there are plenty of articles on the internet about their dilemma. THey are in the process of hiring 10,000 people and have made a commitment to Congress to clear the backlog by December.
Last year amended returns took 6 months to a year to process so just hang in there.
The IRS commissioner is a master of weasel words.
He did not make any commitment.
He said he expected to clear the backlog by December, barring any other unexpected emergencies.
And that is only the 2020 backlog.
Then he asked for more funding.
see article and other similar articles.. commitment is to get back to normal backlog levels by the end of 2022

just wondering because by the day I am falling deeper and deeper into hardship
@ezekielallen29 Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return. During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six months or more for many amended returns. Do not expect quick results from amending. When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check. They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns. You can watch for information here:

IRS has been running behind processing Amended Returns. My daughter's 2020 Amended Return was received by IRS on August 4, 2021 and was just processed on May 13, 2022. That is 40 weeks and 2 days! This is double the 20 weeks that IRS indicates. It also took well over the 3 weeks IRS indicates for it to show up as being received on the Where's My Amended Return website.
I also just had an amendment that was submitted in May, 2021 processed on May 13th of this year.
So at least we know how far behind the IRS is on amendments - more like 9-12 months currently
I have tried recommended IRS site States I have no authorization to access
that's unreasonable especially with everything going on I did my 2022 taxes nothing older than that and I'm expecting irs too do their job if I owed money they would exhaust every effort too receive what is owed
Unfortunately, Congress keeps adding to the IRS workload, but doesn't give them any more money to fund them. And the IRS is still trying to catch up on millions of paper filings and mail that were left untouched during a multi-month COVID lockdown.
