Will filing under a different status this year from last years status cause issues with IRS review process?

Last year I filed a joint status return with my spouse, this year I filed single. I was asked to provide my AGI from last years return, which I couldn't because it would have included my spouses income. We filed together because my income was low. Will the change in filing status cause a problem when my current return is reviewed?

When you are asked for last year's AGI for e-filing you enter the AGI that was on Form 1040 line 11 of the 2023 tax return that you filed. It doesn't matter if the filing status was different. It's not asking for your individual AGI. It's asking for the AGI that was on the tax return.

Are you filing as single this year because you were divorced or widowed before the end of 2024? If you were still married at the end of 2024 you cannot file as single. You have to file as either married filing jointly or married filing separately.
