Why waiting on 2022 refund (as of Nov 2024)

Paid 2023 taxes owed in full on 4/15/24 (no refund which was expected). Filed in CO and Status is single (if that matters). However, checked IRS website and shows I'm owed several thousands of dollars for my 2022 refund. Status for months has been Refund Received (not Approved nor Refund Sent). I tried to call the IRS several times and cannot speak to an actual human. I finally reached an IRS collections agent who could not help (realize this is not a collections topic - just desperately trying to reach a human). And yes, I saw the post from June 2019 with instructions to press 2, etc. The Turbotax agent I chatted with suggested that as well. 🙂 It is no longer an option. I have listened to all prompts. IRS must have changed options since 2019.  Any advice?

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

Or you can contact your local IRS office.  See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment

Or you may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area.  See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

Thanks, but I tried that... it was from a June 2019 post (Turbotax agent I spoke with suggested as well). While it sounds like that has worked more recently, I tried 5-6x to make sure I wasn't missing that prompt or the prompt number had changed. However, it's no longer an option. Option is something with vehicle or health, etc.  "Personal Income Tax" is lumped into another prompt #, which doesn't work either. Been trying options for over 90 mins... only way I got to an actual person was through collections/payment option, but the person could not help (not surprised). I'm waiting on a call back to make an appt at my local IRS office. I will also contact a local Taxpayer Advocate. Thank you!
