I've completed my return and paid. When I go to e-file, I'm asked to sign the following statement: "Consent to Disclosure Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have filed an original return and that I have examined this amended return, including accompanying schedules and statements, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, this amended return is true, correct, and complete. Declaration of preparer (other than taxpayer) is based on all information about which the preparer has any knowledge." I have not filed an original return for 2024. Nothing I've seen indicates that this was an amended return. Am I misunderstanding the disclosure?
I wish I had an answer for this too. I called TurboTax support, and the person I talked to said it was just legal jargon and that I shouldn't worry about it. That's not very reassuring though - it certainly sounds like the software thinks I'm amending a return when I'm not.
Thanks for replying and letting me know that I’m not the only one who’s noticed it and been concerned. What is the number for TurboTax support? The number I found led me to an AI assistant that emailed me some articles that weren’t at all related to the issue. I couldn’t figure out how to get to an actual human.
You can reach them at 1-800-446-8848. Just say no to the articles the AI support bot wants to send you and ask for an agent. This page has the number: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/contact
