Why does TuboTax say I got a refund of $594 for 2022’s tax season when my bank statement says the IRS gave me exactly $394, which is $200 less?

I thought maybe I wound up paying an exorbitant amount of money for the deluxe package of TurboTax, but it only costed a few bucks and it doesn’t amount to this missing $200 value.

Did you request to have your TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund?  If so, there is an additional $40 charge for using that option.  If you also had a state tax return included, there is an additional charge for the state program.

Look at your TurboTax fees for the 2022 online account and add the $40 to that amount to see if it equals the $200 difference.

Also, go to the IRS website for federal tax refunds to view the amount the IRS issued and sent - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Start the 2023 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year and Click on View order details

And look at your 2022 return and see if line 34 equals line 35a.  If the IRS sent you less than line 35a they should have sent you a letter saying what they changed.  There could be many reasons.  I don't think the  2022 refund amount will affect your 2023 return.

...or...if you actually meant to say your "State"  (not the IRS).

Then, do you remember doing some state checkoff donation that added up to $200.

What transfers to 2023 from 2022, is the full refund, before the donation.
