Why did I get a notice from Turbo Tax that my federal taxes were accepted but it doesn't say accepted on the Where's My Refund site?

Has it been at least 24 hours since it was accepted?

Sometimes people get confused by the “summary” given by TurboTax and use the wrong amount for the federal refund.  Make sure you are only using the federal refund amount, and not an amount that combined your federal and state refunds.

Your federal refund amount is on line 35a of your Form 1040

It's been over two weeks, I got the acceptance notice on the day that I filed, but the actual IRS site does not reflect that.

What does the IRS site show?  You didn't go on to say what you are seeing.   The IRS does not use the term "accepted" on its WMR website.   "Accepted" is a term provided to a filer that just means the IRS has agreed the efile return is in a proper format such that processing can begin.   Initially the IRS WMR tool should say the return was received and is processing. When processing is finished, it should say "approved."   Then finally it should say "refund sent."

Or are you saying the IRS shows no evidence of your return?  If the IRS tool can't find your return, see these tips:

  • Be sure you have waited at least 24 hours after acceptance before using the IRS WMR tool.
  • Be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.
  • Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a screen.
  • Also be sure you are using the Federal amount before any TurboTax fees are taken out (if you chose that option.)
  • Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.
  • You can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline.  I've seen it work for some users when the WMR tool didn't.  800-829-1954
