Why am I unable to print the tax forms from my iMac this year? I've used Turbo Tax for several years with no problem. When will this be corrected?

I can save the tax return to a pdf and print, but I want to print individual forms and worksheets.

Are you getting the spinning beach ball or does the print button not turn blue and allow you to print?  Which MAC OS are you using?

A few things you can try

First, the standard.  Make sure you TurboTax program is up to date.  To do this Select TurboTax at the top of the screen then Check for Updates

Second, Restart your computer

Third, Make sure you have the printer selected and not the PDF file or Secure Print

If you are only trying to print certain forms

  1. Go to forms mode,
  2. Select the form you want to print
  3. Select File
  4. Print Active Form

Thank you for your suggestions for my print problem. Here are my responses.

I get the spinning ball and the blue print line scrolling back and forth and then I hear a "pop" and it stops. It does not send the document to the printer and nothing shows in the print queue. The printer is working and I can print other documents from this Mac.

I have exited Turbo Tax and restarted the Mac several times.

I am using MacOS Ventura 13.7.3. The Mac is up to date.

Turbo Tax is up to date; I've checked for updates several times.

I have tried to print the active form, as well as the full tax returns with supporting documents for my records. It will not print.

I have saved the tax returns as a pdf and that will print from the Mac, but there are other forms not included in the pdf that I want to print and cannot.

I have used Turbo Tax on this Mac for years and am quite familiar with it. I've never had trouble printing.

I did see an online conversation and others apparently have reported this same problem (blue line, spinning ball, then "pop") to you beginning 1/30/25.

Having the same issue on iMac . After hitting print a screen quickly pops up but disappears and nothing happens . I see everyone is having same issue. Is there a fix from TurboTax?

Did you try saving the return as a PDF, then printing the PDF?

If the PDF of the full return lacks any specific form you need, you can go into Forms Mode, bring up that form and save the form as a PDF, too (I assume--I use the Windows version that has that capability).

In the Mac version, when you choose to save the PDF, does it ask if you want the basic return in the PDF or if you also want to included all forms and worksheets?  In the Windows versions there are some choices as to what to include in the PDF.

If the PDF of the full return you saved to print from lacks any specific form you need, did you try going into Forms Mode, bring up that form and save the form as a PDF, too?  (I assume Mac version can save a single form to PDF--I use the Windows version that has that capability).   I know it's clumsy to have to do that for the additional forms you want.

I have tried all of your suggestions as well as the community member suggestions. I still can’t print.

This sounds like a turbo tax glitch for Macs.  Please send this to your IT team and correct the issue. I will think twice before buying Turbo Tax next year if you can’t fix this problem.

Thank you.

No, thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve tried and I can’t pdf a single page.

Really, Turbo Tax just needs to fix this. The version I bought was for Windows and Macs. It should print properly like it has in all the other years I’ve used it.

I have the same problem (Brother printer rather than Epson). Turbotax support gave me an incredibly cumbersome workaround- go to print the entire return, select preview, export the preview to pdf, open adobe, print the specific page you want.  Every time you make any change or addition to the return yo have to go through the entire process.    Tech said no one else was having the problem!

Sam problem.. Tech says no one else is having the problem. Promised to send it up the chain.  Awful.

And I have been using Turbotax since it was Macintax- 30 years.

This of us ( Mac users, apparently) also cannot save as pdf.  the  cumbersome workaround given by Turbotax tech was to go to print, choose preview. wait for that, then save the preview as a pdf, which is can do, and then open Adobe, and print the page you want- and if you make any changes to your return, start over.  ARRGH!

But as far as I can tell, the pdf only includes the tax return, not the supporting forms. So I still can’t print the extra forms. I’ve given up at this point and filed my taxes.

After all the years I’ve used turbo tax on a Mac, it’s extremely disappointing that turbo tax is apparently not taking this problem seriously and correcting it.

If you want to print your entire return (or save as PDF) all of the forms and schedules that TurboTax created, using TurboTax for Mac, with a return open in the program:

  1. Go to the TurboTax top menu bar and select File
  2. Select Print from the dropdown menu that appears
  3. In the pop-up window that follows, use the radio buttons to select to print either:

  •  Tax return only
  •  Recommended forms & worksheets OR
  •  All forms & schedules

Selecting "All forms & schedules" will produce copies of all of the documents TurboTax has created.

        4. Click Continue

        5. Review the choices in the print menu. To print to PDF, choose "PDF" in the lower left corner of the print window.

I am unable to test with a printer at this time, but was able to create a complete PDF file including supporting worksheets with my Mac, which should be able to print just as any other PDF file.

None of that works. There is no drop down menu under file, just a button that says "Print Returns" If I select that the print progress bar comes up, goes back and forth for 5 seconds, then goes POP and nothing else happens. There is no choice to do anything else.

Just checked again and no updates, Turbotax is up to date.

Please fix your software.

I agree. The drop down menu is how it has worked in prior years. This year there is a glitch and Turbo Tax needs to correct it.

I am having the exact same issue.  Circling symbol then pop but no printing.  Able to print other documents. Had no problem printing forms last year on same computer.  I think it is a software issue.

I can do steps 1-4, but not 5. Step As soon as I click continue, it immediately begins to “print” and then not actually print.

I can work around this limitation by making a pdf of everything, but this is slow and clumsy. I should be able to print individual forms through the turbo tax print menu as I have been able to do in prior years. Turbo Tax just needs to fix this problem for Mac users.

Thank you! Yes, this method does work.

But Mac users should not have to go through all these steps just to print their return or individual forms. It’s ridiculous. Turbo Tax has been a big disappointment this year.

I am having the exact same problem as the other users of this thread are having, and have tried all of the suggestions made by Turbo Tax people and the community with exactly the same results !!!   I have the desktop version of 2024 TurboTax Premier running on a Mac with OS Ventura (uptodate).  I cannot print anything except for the downloaded PDF file.  TurboTax used to be good, but I do not understand why the TurboTax IT cannot/will not fix this problem.  It is not my computer and it is not my printer.  I personally think that TurboTax has changed the way they operate and (without telling you) are requiring the customer to file the return thru TurboTax before you can print any form.   But regardless of what is going on behind the scenes at TurboTax, they should provide a clarifying note in the program about why the print functions are not working and/or grey-out all of the print options in the menu selections.  BTW, the TurboTax agents are of NO HELP.

I filed my return through turbo tax and no changes, still can’t print it.
wonder if they are fixing this issue? Be nice if they posted something about 1) that they were fixing it 2) when it would be fixed

I have the exact same problems as bryson-ellen.  Everything is up to date. Using MacOS Ventura 13.7.3. Exited & restarted TurboTax, Mac and printer (HP Smart Tank 7301) several times. I get the same spinning ball, blue line, and a "pop" then it stops. No matter which "print" box I push, none work. I can print a copy from the pdf, but on the state form it instructs not to send a photocopy! I will call a technical support # tomorrow. 2/13/25

Thanks for the detailed steps.

This will work but the problem I found was I needed to uncheck my state return. It would only work to print my federal forms and supporting documents. When I tried to only check my state return to print, turbo tax crashed again.

Very frustrating indeed as printing has never been an issue on Turbo Tax in the past.
