Where to file W2C from 2023 for corrected residence state that has a different Tax level.

Hello there, thank you for reading.

My original W2 from 2023 that I filed had an old address in Colorado on it; I had actually moved to Texas just before the year began. Since CO has income tax and TX does not, I should be due a refund from CO.

My employer just sent over a W2C with the correction, but I'm not sure where to file.  Do I amend my 2023 Federal W2 through Turbotax, or add the W2C as a second W2?  Or do I need to just file directly with the State of Colorado?

Thank you again!

Let me see if I understand. You say that you received a corrected W-2 from 2023, and all it had was a change of address? All the numbers were the same?

Is it true that you did file a 2023 Colorado return, but now think that you should not have?

If all the numbers on the W-2C are unchanged, then it is unlikely that you will need to file an amended federal return. That is, you could directly file a Colorado return, whether with the state or through TurboTax. However, please note that if you file directly with Colorado, that you should include a copy of your federal return with the Colorado return (TurboTax does this automatically). The Colorado return should show no Colorado income (since you lived in Texas all year).

If you use TurboTax, do NOT add the corrected W-2C to your return with the prior W-2, but replace the old W-2 with the W-2C.
